Yes, but they DO settle back. There was the famous experiment in which subjects
were fitted with glasses that made the world appear "upside down." After a while
the brain compensated, and everything appeared normal to them. Then, when the
glasses were removed, the world appeared "upside down" WITHOUT the glasses until
the brain re-adjusted and returned everything to normal.
