Oh, I don't think it is at all typical anymore, unless you are in certain
circles where such social entertaining is required to promote contacts
in political and financial circles...commonly known as "shmoozing".
Politicians and executives aren't likely to drag out the family slides,
though.  :-)

I guess I didn't make very clear that I was reminiscing about how images
were shared when I was growing up in the '60s, when regular family
gatherings of large numbers of people were quite common.

I have never had 15-20 people in my home at the same time, and I don't
know where I'd put them if I did!  I think this is another way in which
our social fabric has changed that has affected the way people use
photographic images.
