3d experiment

Has anyone attempted to use a "beamsplitter" attachment,
such as sold through Reel 3D, on a SLR with macro lens
for close-ups of a few inches? (For flowers or whatever.)
This would not require moving one camera on a sliding bar
or setting up 2 cameras side by side, and the resulting
half-frame slides or negatives would be easy to mount or
print for viewing. I'm sure Dr. T's macro technique is better,
as he mentioned in a previous Digest, but I was wondering
if this would work almost (?) as well, and would be interested
in knowing if anyone has tried it--successfully or not.
