I haven't used the one from Reel 3D but have used the Pentax
version which uses front surface mirrors. (I have even taken
pictures of my kid with it.;-)) The one from Reel 3D uses rear
surface mirrors, which is not as good, but at least the price
is reasonable compared to a Pentax attachment. For macros of a
few inches it would not work very well since the stereo base
would be to wide and you would get two completetly different
images and thus you would not have a stereo pair. From my
experience you can't get closer than a foot and even then you
have to adjust the focal length to avoid getting black bands
between the 3d pair. Maybe someone else has had better luck.
I remember you have a Loreo. This of course can't be used for
macro but works, in general better than the beamsplitter even
thou the quality might not be as good as a SLR with the attachment.
It's kind of funny that the front surface version is priced out
of this world and the rear surface one is reasonably priced but
the Loreo version combines a "beamsplitter" and camera for slightly
more and also comes with a viewer. It seems that it would be cheaper,
if it was possible take apart a Loreo and adapt the mirror arrangement
for a SLR. I don't know if that is possible but you would have to be
a handyperson to accomplish this.
