Realist Prints

I'm new to photo-3d, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the discussions. I've been
catching up via the archives, but have a ways to go!

Mr. ThomGillam's discussion on realist prints has caught my interest. I
manage a 1-hour photo in a Wal-Mart store. I've only recently aquired a
Realist 3.5 and I'm still testing everything with slide film, so I haven't
tried printing. I'll shoot some negative film and play with it and see what
my printer (a Fuji SFA 255) can and can't do, and report back.

In his comments, (Re: Mistake, 25 Oct 96) ThomGillam writes:
<Perhaps the most important step you can take is to find a lab where you can
talk to the technician, or <even better, the BOSS...
<and if you GET ANY RELUCTANCE WHATSOEVER, move on. Find a shop where they
<WANT your business, and are willing to work with you.

May I suggest that somethimes "reluctance" is a product of how the customer
approaches us. Lab personnel are regularly assaulted (especially in a
setting like Wal-Mart) by rude people who think they know a lot more about
photography that they do. Like the man this week who shot portraits with a
quartz main light, a fluorescent fill, no filters, underexposed the whole
mess, then ranted because his colors were "not right". So sometimes we're
a little gun shy.

Often it's not a matter of not "wanting" your busines. There are a lot of
things that I am capable of doing, having come out of a custom lab
environment, and would love to do, but just can't take the time for in high
volume consumer lab setting. I would, however, at least try to work with
any reasonable request.

Anyway, I'll print some and let you all know how they come out.

Thanks for the many hours of enjoyable reading!
