Will the images accepted for competition have to be tintypes too?

On a more serious note (although I was trying to make a point above)
"Photography", it seems to me, has always been a field of producing
images. And they have NOT always been "pure and simple without
artificial manipulation" because even the old photography books tell
of "special effects" during exposure, solarization and many other
manipulation effects during processing, and the like. And the
technology has continuously changed over the last couple centuries
of photography.

Computer manipulation is just yet another technology. It doesn't do
things new so much as doing things previously attempted better and
faster and after the fact.

So, to disallow computer manipulated images, it'd be like disallowing
the use of some new film with wide tonal ranges. Or disallowing push
processing.

Do I think there will be restrictions on competitons? Probably yes.
Do I think it's reasonable? Probably yes, in the short term, but its probably
not a viable thing to do in the long term. It's a reasonable thing to do
during the technology change-over period. But if there is a secondary category
where such technology is allowed, that "group" will increase in size, and
the other will die away. I mean, it's perfectly reasonable if a group wants
to limit entries to tintypes! May not get many entries, but they certainly
can do so if they want to. Those who don't do tintypes will go elsewhere or
start a new group with their own rules. I think my photo club limits entries
to 3D images (although I don't think it's technically been stated as such :-).

I've noted that Pop Photography in their "competition" accepts computer
manipulated images the same as non-manipuated (I mean non computer-manipulated,
most all good photos are probably "manupulated" in some fashion... even using
fill-flash is an artificial manipulation of nature to the purist).
