Dave,

What you describe beautifully is the Pulfrich effect. It is a very real
effect but requires relative motion in the images. If they did a good job of
photographing things with the correct relative motions, then it is a very
valid stereoscopic 3D. They are being more accurate in their ads than other
instances because they are providing specific content where others have
based their ads on occasional and accidental adequate motion in material
that isn't intended as Pulfrich. Their product sounds quite interesting for
the 3D presentation at least.
