Character of the list

Just to show you that I read all of Gabriel Jacob's posts, even to
the last sentence of a 10K message ;) (this is a joke!) I found
the following statement burried somewhere towards the end of a
recent message:

>There have been some critisms of P3D being
>monopolized by computer grahics ,which I don't see to be the case. There
>is a healthy mix from both sides (I use this with reservation, because
>there shouldn't be any sides) and IMHO I see more regular 3d film
>photography discussed here if you ask me.

"More"? More than what? More than 50%? Or more than the percentage
of involvement of computer graphics in stereoscopic imaging?

Everybody in P3D has access to a computer. Not everybody has a
stereo camera or has ever created/recorded a single stereoscopic image.
This list is not representative of the present status of stereoscopic
imaging in the world. It is populated by young people many of which
have an active interest in computers. The old & experienced stereo
photographers, the legends of stereo photoraphy are not here. The
voice of experience is missing. The legends of stereo photography
are not here. I could list 100 names from David Starkman, Susan
Pinsky, John Dennis, Ron Zakowski,..., to David Burder, Colin Clay,
etc. who are not here (or, if they are, they are hidding!) On the
other hand, the ones who are here (Dr. T, etc.) are virtually uknown
to the world of 3d in large.

Note: This is not an opinion. It is a fact. OK, I do not have
the hard data but I have no doubt that if Bob Wier ever bothers to
collect and release statistics of age and years in stereoscopic
involvement for photo-3d members and compares them with same data
for stereo workers world-wide, I am sure the gap will be clear.

I am not saying that this is good or bad. I am just saying that it
is a fact. Feel free to dispute the facts and discuss opinions,
but, please don't say that I have a problem with the character of the
list!

Thank you! -- George Themelis
