Does anyone know what the flash for a Kin Dar was like? I have make a
rather crude adaptor to use a flash with it but it is a pain in the but
to get it all hooked up right.
My response:
At a thrift shop, I found an old bulb flash attachment with a cord on it. I
couldn't tell what make or brand it was. However, rather than the usual PC
end, this one was threaded with the hot wire at the tip of the threads. I
thought at the time that it looked like it would fit the threaded socket on
the Kin dar so I bought it for 50 cents. I took it home and sure enough, the
threads fit. I cut the cord off and threw the flash attachment away, wired
the cord to a PC end that will fit a modern day corded flash attachment and
mount it to a bar on the Kin Dar and it seems to work fine.
Incidently, I'm sure many of you have already found that some of those old
bulb flash attachments often have the early Kodak Stereo bayonet mounts that
can be cut off and rewired to current corded flash attachments and these
will work on the Kodak Stereo Camera. Also, the little cap that fits on the
bayonet mount of a Kodak Stereo Camera can also be found on older Kodaks
like the Kodak pony. I happened to have a Kodak Pony that had a cap which
now is on my Kodak Stereo. The Pony will just have to do without.
For that reason, whenever I see the old flash attachments using the old flash-
bulbs, I always look at the cord to see if it might be of some use on an old
Stereo camera. Yes, I know, just call me the old scrounge.
Les.
