This is definitely true!

I don't think it is necessary to know what an f-stop or shutter
speed or depth of field are to take stereo pictures, for the same
reason that it is not necessary to be familiar with these terms to
take 2d pictures.  It is nice to know but not necessary.  Proof is
the Nimlso.  A camera with 5.6 maximum f-stop and fixed focusing
at about 15-20 feet could make a nice automatic stereo camera.
