I would think that the auto-focus would be useless with the
beamsplitter attached. Most (all?) auto-focus cameras are center-weighted,
which means that the focus is determined by what appears in the center of
the frame. Placing a splitter on the lens will distort this central point.
Of course, the best test is to bring along a splitter to the camera
store and ask if you can try it out while you're standing there. A quick
12 exposure roll of color negative film can show you the results in less
than an hour.
