Reel 3-D sells both a twin SLR bar and a slide viewer.  Get their
catalog via mail for all the details (more detailed that their
web site).  The twin SLR bar will hold two cameras.  Just make
sure that the cameras are aligned when tied to the bar.  You can
handhold the bar or use a tripod.  For fast shooting with one
camera, handholding is recommended.  Just be careful with the
vertical alignment between the two shots.  If you have time
and the subject does not walk out on you, one camera on a slide
bar will do it.  I have tried all these methods and have taken
good pictures with each one of them.

Needless to say, the most convenient way of capturing normal
stereo pictures is a stereo camera.

There are not many places that sell specialized stereo equipment
like that.  Reel 3-D is your best bet.  Regular photography stores
might carry a regular slide bar, but that's about it.
