halogen conversion lamps

Has anyone done any extensive testing of the halogen lamps that have the
bases made for use in the TDC projectors? And could you tell me the letter
designation of the lamps? They're supposed to be quite a bit more
expensive than incandescent lamps, but are they worth it?
