Halogen bulbs in TDC projectors

The question of halogen bulbs for the TDC projectors was asked. As a
matter of fact, there is such thing! David Hutchison posted the
information back in February. I saved it and I am going through it now,
ready to pick up the phone and order a few.
Here is the list:
Wattage Code Life LghtOutput Comments
---------------------------------------------------
500W CZX 25 h ? Classic tungsten
500W BTL 750 h 11,000 THQ 3050K
500W BTM 100 h 13,000 THQ 3200K
---------------------------------------------------
750W DDB 25 h ? Classic tungsten
750W BTN 500 h 17,000 TH 3050K
750W BTP 200 h 20,000 THQ 3200K
---------------------------------------------------
1000W ? ? ? Classic tungsten
1000W BTR 200 h 27,000 THQ 3200K
---------------------------------------------------
THQ stands for Tungsten Halogen Quartz. I see they are made in two
different temperature ratings. For projection I would go for the 3200K.
The halogen bulbs are bit more expensive (about $25 each) but the long
lasting life makes them worth it. The light output is expressed in lumens
per David's posting (from the Sylvania handbook).
I am ordering both 500W and 750W versions but I will not dare put the 750W
in my 116 with the bakelite holders!
It you wait, I'll tell you what I find, how the halogen bulbs compare to
the classic tungsten in terms of light output and a good source to get
them. Heck, if these work well I might buy a quantity to resell together
with the best polarizing filters I can find!
