I rigged my TDC similarly, using cable controls from an OLD car radio
(radio sat on floor; controls clamped to steering column) for vert &
horiz. adjustments, like this guy, swung around to the back of the
projector for my use (many of my slides are *not* projection
mounted). 40 inches closer is still not nearly close enough to the
screen to focus a TDC with 5" lenses (20 feet + for 50" screen)as
sharply as I like. I cannibalized an old Carousel for its motorized
focus module, which I attached to the TDC with a rubber boot over
both focus knobs (knob comes with Carousel unit) With a long wire and
a switch scavenged from a Chrysler power window, I can now have
someone focus from as close to the screen as I want. Result is fast,
razor-sharp focussing and no yelling back and forth (the TDC creates
a minor windstorm when that fan kicks on, hard to hear comments ).

They were using this method in May of 1995, when I last visited.

Hey, this guy sounds a lot like me!
