The Chicago Stereo Camera Club is presently accepting Realist-format stereo
slides for their 49th International Exhibition of Stereo Photography to
benefit The Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
If you would like an entry form, please e-mail your address to
74226.607@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Last year's entrants should have received entry
forms through the mail in December. Entry forms are due March 12th. Public
showings will be on the evening of May 1st at Oakton Community college, Des
Plaines IL and the afternoon of May 4th at the Naperville-Lisle Radisson
Hotel. Exact times still to be determined. All accepted slides will be put
to narration with a musical background to produce a multi-media 3-d show.
Thanks to all of you who were 1st time entrants to this exhibition last
year as a result of postings at this site. To those of you that did not get
an acceptance, do not get discouraged and please try again this year. It's
exciting to see slides from new exhibitors, and the more slides entered,
the bigger and better will be this year's show.
Judges will be Allan Lange of Minneapolis and Carl Korber from Chicago
Stereo Camera Club, international star exhibitors, and John Roll, a very
talented young member of our club. Carl and John recently judged an
Interclub Competition which Chicago Stereo hosted.
The Chicago Stereo Camera Club proudly donates all profits from their
International Stereo Exhibition to the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and
Visually Impaired. The Chicago Stereo Camera Club was honored in November,
1996 at The Lighthouse 90th Anniversary Reception as being the longest
continuous contributor to The Lighthouse. We received a beautifully
inscribed clock which we proudly display at all meetings and a specially
designed pin for each member.
Since 1906, the Chicago Lighthouse has been creating opportunities which
enable people who are blind, visually impaired or blind with additional
disabilities to assume their rightful place in society.
With a broad base of corporate, foundation and individual support, hopes
become reality every day at the Lighthouse: a child takes a first step
toward independence with a white cane; a senior citizen lives independently
with special visual aids. The William Karp Evaluation Center assists
Chicago area people who are blind or visually impaired to assess their own
abilities, interests and potential. Newly blinded adults may go to The
Chicago lighthouse to learn to adjust, obtain career guidance and learn new
job skills. The Chicago Lighthouse teaches both office and industrial
skills and their employment placement service continues to successfully set
national records. The Eleanor Palmer Development Center in The Chicago
Lighthouse trains and nurtures children with handicaps so severe that they
can not attend regular schools.
The Lighthouse is a national leader among agencies that create
opportunities for people with visual impairments. As society, technology
and the demands of the job market change, so do the initiatives and goals
of the Lighthouse.
The Chicago Stereo Camera Club, through the profits of the Lighthouse
Exhibition, provided part of the initial grants necessary to secure
equipment and support services for the The Chicago Lighthouse Adaptive

Technology Center. The center was the first of its kind in the Midwest when
it was established in 1983. Since then, it has enabled persons with visual
impairment to obtain jobs, to gain access to school or university training,
to enhance their careers and to perform daily living tasks.
