The thought of going to bed refreshed my memory! ;) It was hand-held (I
have the bad habit of not carrying a tripod) with a _ring_ flash on my
macro lens. The ring
flash was supposed to minimize the shadows since the flash would be moving
with the camera. If you use other arrangements you must keep the flash out
of the camera and stationery as the camera is translated. The few pairs
did not work very well as I recall but don't remember what the problem was.
With a tripod, slide bar, temperature converting filters, etc., things are
different but you might want to ask the museum if you are allowed to take
pictures like that. An amateur with a hand held camera is one thing but a
"professional" with a tripod is another! Some museums will not allow flash
or tripods! They want you to buy their pictures!
