Realist Flash Discussion

        For what it is worth. I just got back my first two rolls using flash
on the Realist.  I took an old Vivitar flash, filed a channel for the hot
point and also filed the plastic down a bit so it would slide into the
Realist shoe.  The negative contact didn't match up anywhere so I took a bit
of copper wire and wrapped it around the round part just above the shoe
where the tightening screw is and did a twist so it would stay in place.  It
now slips firmly into the shoe and both contacts engage.  I shot three rolls
of juggling pictures with ASA 100 film at 100th shutter speed.  

        All the shots turned out well and some are very good indeed.  The
point is that the system works predictably and without making any changes to
the camera itself, requiring only minor adjustments to the plastic on the
flash unit.  

        Now, if I just had a 7-perf Realist with a *vertical orientation* so
I could get closer to nine-ball juggling patterns ....  Maybe that could be
Dr T's next camera adaptation project.
