- From: P3D Andrew Woods <andrew@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: UPDATE: Stereoscopic Displays and Virtual Reality Conferences
- Date: Fri, 17 Jan 1997 09:52:04 +0800
Dear Photo-3d'ers,
Here is some information about the upcoming Stereoscopic Displays
and Applications (SD&A) and The Engineering Reality of Virtual Reality
(TERoVR) conferences.
I've previously posted some introductory information about the
conference, so this mainly provides update information, but if
you wish further information, please go to the web addresses
provided. This document is derived from a mail-out to authors
so it may seem a bit mis-guided in places.
THE CONFERENCES
Stereoscopic Displays and Applications runs from Feb 11-13 (Tuesday
to Thursday) at the San Jose Convention Centre. The Engineering
Reality of Virtual Reality runs on Friday Feb 14.
The schedule of papers for the two conferences is now available on the
web:

The Engineering Reality of Virtual Reality IV

If you haven't attended the conference before, you may wish to visit the
following site to read a review of last year's conference.

Discounts apply for registration if you register before Jan 22.
NEW ROOM
This year we have been allocated a new conference room "J4".
It is located in the main convention centre near the Hilton
Hotel. It should be easier to find than our previous
Hilton Almaden room and is also larger. Please refer to the
map below.

3D-AV FACILITIES DURING PAPER PRESENTATIONS
As in past years we will have both stereo video projection and stereo
35mm slide projection equipment available. Lowell Noble from QD
Technology has loaned us his stereoscopic rear-screen video-projection
system for the conference. We actively encourage speakers to use
3D slides or video in their presentations and generally there is
a lot of 3D to be seen.
DEMONSTRATION SESSION - CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
The demo session this year will be held in the huge conference room "J2"
(Thursday 13th Feb 2:45pm-6pm). We are currently organising this session.
We encourage speakers to bring any equipment along for demonstration
which supports their presentation. Last year was a good show and
we expect this year to be even better.
See http://info.curtin.edu.au/~iwoodsa/spie96/sd96phde.html
As part of the demonstration, we will also be screening 3D videos and
projecting 3D slides in the conference room "J4".
KEYNOTE PRESENTAION
This year our keynote speaker will be Peter Anderson. Peter was the
director of 3D photography for the new T23D attraction at Universal
Studios Florida (produced by James Cameron with outrageous 3D CG
effects by Digital Domain - all in dual 65mm). Peter has also
worked on Magic Journeys, Captain Eo, Honey I Shrunk the Audience,
Muppet Vision and many other stereo films. Peter's presentation
should be of great interest and he may also have some special
preview 3D footage to show us.
SHORT COURSE
The Stereoscopic Display Application Issues short course is
scheduled for the Monday before the conference proper starts
(Monday 10th February). This year it is a full day course.
Please note that separate registration is necessary to attend
this course.

FINALLY
We look forward to seeing you there.
Best Regards from the conference committee:
Scott Fisher, John Merritt, Mark Bolas, Shojiro Nagata, Michael Weissman,
Andrew Woods, Jim Humphries, Linda Jacobson & Henry Sowizral
