Re: Wladyslaw Reksc reports a store returned all its stock of the
3Discover to the Ottawa distributor due to low sales volume. I
think Wrebbit needs to look at the packaging issue. My package
came with the viewer, two cartridges, and two AA batteries. It
came in a shipping box that measures 10-1/4 x 13 x 3-1/2. I was
amazed when the giant package on my desk turned out to be just the
pair of 3Discovers I ordered. The reason the shipping box is so
large is the viewer comes in a peculiar trapezoidal (OK, so what
*do* you call a 3D trapezoidal shape??) shaped package that is
almost 10" high, which in turn contains a 6" high plastic snap-shut
enclosure that holds the viewer and batteries. The viewer itself
is only about 3" high. That's a lot of packaging! If the proddduct
does become popular, Wrebbit should expect to hear complaints from
environmentalists. But unless the product suddenly becomes the next
tickle-me-elmo style rage, they should also expect retailers to complain
about the large amount of shelf space required to stock the item.
This will almost always be a factor in a retailer's decision whether
to carry any item. Shelf space is an extremely precious commodity
for a retailer!
