Well it sure is nice to see everybody coming to 3Discover's side after
Paul T. made some critical and objective comments about it. I remember
a few months ago that most that had commented on the 3Discover and 3D
in general, mentioning the excessive use of hyper 3D in pics. It was
commented by others that ALL the pics were hyper, and lamenting about
that aspect. As Paul said in his example with the filet mignon, if we
ate it everyday, we would soon tire of it. I think he was pretty clear,
at least to me, on the point that most of P3D, are already jaded (not a
good choice of words, sorry) by hyper pics. Much as I like hypers, I
don't want to see them all the time and most on P3D don't also, and have
commented as such in the past.
As to the size of the cassettes, yes they take up a bit of space, even
if you have a basement to store them in. BTW not a good place to store
them. Yes I know nobody is storing them there in reality. At least I
hope not. What I don't like about them more than the size aspect is the
shape. With the protective see thru case the extra cassettes come in, or
without them, they are really ackward to store. They don't stack up really
well, as they are not squarish. The best I could manage is storing them
vertically in a box, with the titles label facing up. A box measuring
roughly 10 inches high and 12x12 inches sides, can hold 30 cassettes,
which BTW is how many I have at the moment. So Paul's suggestion that
an APS format is well taken.
Five more titles have recently come out and a few more next month as was
mentioned by Mark Kernes on P3D. The five new titles that are out are
Bruges, Splendors of Europe, Toronto, Vancouver, and Yellowstone National
Park. The last one I have been told is very good and makes you feel you
want to go there. As Wlad mentioned, he had a hard time find them around
where he lives. I can imagine the frustration of finding them, when I
have a hard time also. I prefer to get them at the stores since as was
mentioned, they cost more direct from the company. Since this the last
two methods have disadvantages, it would seem the best method is to order
them by mail order from dealers that are selling them at reasonable prices.
The prices mentioned on P3D are competitive to the prices in the stores.
Not only that but Wrebbit doesn't yet sell by mail-order overseas.
I would like to point out, after Paul T. pointed it out to me, that
in the Washington 1 cassette, view #8, the pic seems not to have
been taken simultaneously. I hadn't looked at that particular title
before. It is quite evident, especially when looking at the car movements
between the left and right view. Paul also mentioned that the boats
indicate some discrepancies which I didn't spot yet. I had been on the
lookout on spotting this kind of pic from the limited I did manage to
look at, and after looking at the Great America title, aerial view #2
of the Statue of Liberty, concluded that it was a simultaneous shot.
The water around the island where the Statue is situated is hard to fuse
and seems to be rising above the island. After studying it for awhile, I
concluded this was because of the reflections of the water.
Lastly I would like to mention the above titles are referred to as
CASSETTES not cartridges. No just kidding, I really don't know.
I have referred to them as both, but I think they are more accurately
referred to as cassettes. So what is it???
Gabriel
