****** Sounds very much like the simple viewer program that I was provided
with. I hope to have information on better viewers in the near future.

********* In this case I have to disagree. The discounted price is more a
function of a new technology arriving at a retail price more in line with
the actual materials and mfg. costs involved in a basically simple process.
In this case greater availability allows them to be marketed at lower
prices, which stimulates greater buying of the product which helps support
more economical mfg. This product and others like it need to penetrate into
the market far enough and quickly enough to maintain a continued presence in
the market.
Previously high costs were reflective of the experimental nature of the new
technology and it's lack of a broad market. A basically simple product like
this should not be expensive.
The game makers readily provide their games to various distributors because
it helps promote them. Remember that a CD-ROM at $49 is mostly markup for
retailers. When it's bundled with other products at the mfg. end, the whole
package remains within reach instead of becoming too expensive to sell well.
One benefit to mass marketing is greater affordability. :-)
