                                "LECHUGUILLA CAVE" in 3-D

STEREO NEW ENGLAND presents its Winter Meeting, Sunday, February 16,
1997, at 3:00 pm (doors open at 1:45). FREE admission -- everyone
interested in 3-D is welcome!

Location is the Newman Auditorium, 70 Fawcett St. (off Concord Ave.),
Cambridge, Mass., one block north of Fresh Pond Circle. Call David at
617-254- 4533, late evenings eastern time, for more information.

The program is in two parts, and features "LECHUGUILLA CAVE"by Dick
LaFaorge, stereo images of this spectacular site.

Until ten years ago, Lechuguilla Cave in Carlsbad Caverns National Park,
New Mexico, was known as a pit with a few passages at the bottom. Then a
group of Colorado Cavers, following a strong air draft, dug through a
blockage of loose rock into a large descending tunnel which has led (so far!)
to the discovery of 89 miles of caverns. Lechuguilla Cave has become famous
for its huge rooms and its beautiful decorations, many types of which are
rare or even unknown elsewhere. The National Park Service issues invitations
to experienced cavers to explore, map, and photograph the Cave, which id NOT
 open to the public.

Dick LaForge of Eureka, California, has been exploring caves for over 30
years, taking Stereo Realist pictures across most of the USA and extensively
in Mexico. Since 1988 he's spent about 60 days underground in Lechuguilla
Cave, from which endeavors comes this program!

Part two is "PAUL WING'S 'VALVES'"

Paul Wing of Hingham, Mass., nearing 60 years of stereo picture making,
will present Part I of his program of close-up studies of all types of
valves. In real life, Paul was a world-renowned expert in this area, and his
show is a light-hearted gem from the master.

We'll also project a few of YOUR 3-D slides!

The Meeting actually starts with a buy-and-sell "mini-trade-fair" at 1:45 pm
(NO early admission !!), and then various activities beginning at 2:45
preceding the program.

Our next Meeting will be May 18, 1997, same place and times: Ed Shaw's
"PYRAMIDS AROUND THE WORLD," and, Part II of Paul Wing's "VALVES."
