That is a shame. They (and you!) are missing out on a creative tool that
*in*the*proper*circumstances* can give very pleasing portraits, with
backgrounds so dramatically out of focus that the conventional rules do
not apply. Try it sometime! Just don't get too close, you need the face
fully in focus and avoid those nasty exaggerated proboscises, jutting
jaws, etc.

Incidently, my Stereo New England friend Louis King pointed out to me
that Kodaks tend to be especially good wide open... seems he's right!
