Re: Medium Format: WOW!!!
Medium format has the advantage of the large size and potentially
increased resolution. It is much easier to present an enlarged
image to the eyes. I liked Don Lopp's viewer. The lenses are
good and the magnification just right for my eyes to be surrounded
by the stereo image.
VM is the other extreme. The small image size makes it very difficult
to enlarge properly. But, I did enjoy the VM reels included in expo,
like Bert Noel's and LeRoy's.
35 mm for me appears to be the happy medium. Gives good results with
maximum convenience and acceptance.
In every medium there is good, average and no-so-good work. For every
Don Lopp's breathtaking MF landscape I am sure there are plenty of MF
stereo images not worth existing ;). There is good and bad Realist
format and stereo print work obviously.
There are some interesting lenticulars and anaglyphs too ;)

True, oh great stereo philosopher ;) It is a good learning experience
to experiment with various stereo formats but it's also good to devote
yourself to one specific format pushing it to the limits. That's what
Tim Klein is doing with the View-Magic format, for example.
I am personally very happy with the Realist + format (+ indicates various
35 mm images mounted in Realist format mounts - I am even tempted to
try and mount MF format in Realist mounts... got the inspiration from one
of Joel's hyperstereo MF images). I find the Realist + format very
enjoyable and convenient, a universal language in stereo and a great
choice for my personal stereo photography.
Beyond personal photography, I collect good stereo images in many
different formats. My goal is to have one good viewer in every format
and at least a few good examples of stereo images of that format. I
would like to make an MF viewer like Don's and record some MF slide bar
images myself just to have a few around to impress visitors ;).
That's it for now... I must get back to expo.
