Realist advance problems

>>The first thing we noted was when we removed the advance knob was that one of the teeth on the knobs gear was sheared off. But this sheared tooth is always no where near the location that the camera locks up.....

Two prominent failures in the Realist advance are the soft gear below
the wind knob, and whatever is below that gear. The early cameras have a
terrible "spring clutch" type arrangement, and the later cameras have a
terrible "rachet pawl" system. If you don't feel "clicking" when you
advance the takeup, then:
Remove the takeup spool from the camera, polish the shaft and clean
the top and bottom of the takeup. Clean, then silicon spray the spring
assembly. Degrease then re-grease the gear on top (of course yours now
is broken--so you'll need to replace it somehow). Then reassemble
everything and presto! it'll advance mush easier.
If you did feel clicking when you advanced the film, then do
everything, but remember the alignment of the spring and rachet parts.
I know this is not Sell-3D, but I have some parts from when Realist
was Realist, and if the problem on your camera is definately the
spring-clutch mechanism or the rachet-pawl, I might have a new, used
assembly kicking around.
