Tom, congratulations on your "new" projector and welcome to the wonderful
world of stereo projection! It appears that you have the older carrier that
will show 7p. The back channel can be used for 2x2 projection but it needs
special mounts (Reel 3-D used to sell these, but not any more).

As I recall, there is a "V" shapped groove which has some springing action.
This should center the slide and constant refocusing should not be required
even with cardboard slides. But even if it is required it can be done fast
and I don't see this as a problem. Perhaps you can lubricate the controls
so that they slide easily.
