Re: "Perfect" slide mounting?

I agree with George's comments on mounting for placement of the
window at the screen, etc. I've also experienced the problem Tom
White mentioned about having cardboard slides slop around in the TDC
116 carrier, although I think it depends partly on the tension of the
spring loaded, V-grooved pressure device that holds the slide in
place along the top of the slide. But I hate to think that the
solution to both problems can only be that the slides be re- mounted
in RBT or glass. I REALLY appreciate the convenience and speed (and
cost!) of cardboard fold-over mounts, and I believe I'm able to mount
my slides with as much precision and window placement controls using
cardboard as I could with glass or plastic. Yet the glass or plastic
mounts are thicker and register more positively in the projection
carrier.

I noticed in the call for programs for the NSA convention that slide
shows will NOT be accepted for showing if mounted in cardboard; that
only precision mounted slides could be used. Now I believe that my
slides are precision mounted, but they are in cardboard. It is as
though to some, cardboard and precision are mutually exclusive. One
can, of course, mount a slide badly in glass or plastic, so the type
of mount is no assurance of precision. I have a program featuring
about 150 slides that I would have liked to consider entering in the
show, but it would mean tearing them out of the cardboard and
remounting in thicker mounts, at some dollar cost and a greater time
cost. Is it worth it?
