Dennis Selwa asked:

> Is film contrast directly related to film latitude?

I'm not an expert on this, but my impression is that while large general
tendencies like the comparison Dennis made between Kodachrome and Agfa
Scala b/w film may suggest direct correlation, it is not necessarily a
precise linear relationship at all data points. About 10 days ago I
saw a book in the book store that had all sorts of technical detail on
virtually every commonly available film type. I don't recall the title,
but it was something like The [Complete] Film Guidebook. If I get a
chance to stop back at the store I'll try to check on the title and
author (or maybe someone on the list familiar with it can chime in).

In addition to the detail specs on each film, there was a chart of
chrome films categorized by "low," "medium," and "high" contrast. The
chrome films from Fuji tended to be in the high contrast category, while
the Extachromes tended to fall in the low contrast category. The specs on
grain could be particulary useful to 3D photographers who don't want to
reinvent the wheel buying all the major chrome films for experimentation.
