There are two parts two my opinion...

1. The images are easily viewed in 2D which seems to add to the
amazement when the viewer views the images in 3D. This also gives
people waiting to use the viewer something to see while they wait for
their turn.

2. I find it far easier to load and unload a stereo view viewer than a
stereo slide viewer. My experience is fairly limited here, I admit, but
in the EXPO's for example, I found it awkward to continually feed (&
un-feed) the slot in the viewer...

Also, for me in particular, free-viewing is very much a part of the
equation. When I visited the NSA library last summer, I only had about
3-4 hours to soak as much in as possible. There were trays and trays of
slides, and trays and trays of stereo cards. In my limited time, I got
free-view 100's of stereo cards that interested me, but only several
dozen stereo slides because I had to use a viewer to see them... [That
is why I suggested way back then that it would be nice to have all
those images online or on a CD somewhere... Who has the time/luxury to
go and see them all... But that's another whole discussion!] ;-)

All that to say that I think they ARE easier to use in some respects.
Does that help to clarify my position?
