So that's what was supposed to be there!  My copy of the book had those
film strips missing!  :-(

Perhaps a disadvantage of that method is that the images
become separate from the book -- never to return!>>

And yet... what an interesting concept for some modern-day publications.
After all, it doesn't take nearly as much effort to simply enclose film with
the book and let the readers do a bit of work. Unfortunately,  readers are
less likely to have the necessary equipment nowadays than they were back
then. Sad. Still, sounds like a good (if unworkable) idea to me!
