June 8 Meeting: Stereo New England
- From: P3D <Hear2see2@xxxxxxx>
- Subject: June 8 Meeting: Stereo New England
- Date: Fri, 25 Apr 1997 04:38:56 -0400 (EDT)
"EGYPT THEN AND NOW" in 3-D, plus, a Paul Wing "Special!"
------------------------------------------------------
STEREO NEW ENGLAND presents its Spring Meeting, Sunday, June 8,
1997, at 3:00 pm (doors open at 1:45). FREE admission -- everyone
interested in 3-D is welcome!
Location is the Newman Auditorium, 70 Fawcett St. (off Concord Ave.),
Cambridge, Mass., one block north of Fresh Pond Circle. Call David at
617-254- 4533, late evenings eastern time, for more information.
The program is in two parts, and features Ed Shaw's "EGYPT THEN AND NOW IN
3-D."
Ed Shaw of Waban, Mass., travelled to Egypt two years ago and
extensively documented what he saw using several stereo 3-D cameras. He has
also collected exceptional century-old Egyptian stereographic views and
carefully copied them to 35mm stereo slide formats.
We'll see these historic black and white images along with his modern
color transparencies, allowing us to witness, in 3-D of course, the contrasts
between the ruins, mosques, street life, etc., that have developed over the
last hundred years -- just a grain among the sands of time.
Ed Shaw has traveled and photographed widely over the last quarter
century, with special emphasis on Mayan sites. His interest in ancient Egypt
relates to the pyramids used by both cultures.
Part two is "PAUL WING'S 'FLOWER CLOSE-UPS IN 3-D'"
One of Paul Wing's special 3-D interests through the years has been
making close-up views of both wild and domestic flowers.
By using a modern SLR camera with macro lens, it's easy to produce sharp
pictures of small objects, with 3-D being added by moving the camera sideways
and making a second exposure. What's difficult is achieving interesting
viewpoints and imaginative lighting effects.
Paul has chosen examples from his extensive files with the goal of
tempting viewers to try it for themselves. You can see Paul for more details
afterward, or just enjoy the superb images!
We'll also project a few of YOUR 3-D slides!
The Meeting actually starts with a buy-and-sell "mini-trade-fair" at 1:45 pm
(NO early admission !!), and then various activities beginning at 2:45
preceding the program.

Our next Meeting will be September 21, 1997, same place and time -- program
to be scheduled.
