I agree completely with the previous post regarding Cinema 93 in Concord.
I just returned from the last showing of this movie tonight. Two of my
work friends and I drove up from Boston (~1.5 drive) after work to see
this movie. As we are all in are early 20's, we were not fortunate enough
to grow up with these movies, so besides Amityville 3D in the early 80's
and my video version of the Mask, this was my first 3D movie. WHAT an
experience!!! My two friends (neither of whom are into 3D in any way other
than possesing two eyeballs) had a fantastic time too...well worth the
drive and the rush-hour traffic. I remember my father telling me about the
3D movies of the 50's that he used to see when he was a teenager. He once
told me about a movie in which this guy spits his chewing tobacco into the
audience in order(he was spitting at a snake).. Well, THIS was the movie!!
I can't beleive how BAD Amityville and Jaws 3D are compared to this! The
print even looked great after all these years. There were only a few black
spots in parts of the second reel on the right side a couple times.
I think the best part of tonights showing was that a good majority of the
audience consisted of kids (probably 9-13 yrs old) as well as parents
bringing their children. I can assume they were doing this to give their
kids this rare opportunity to see a 3D (let alone one with great 3D)
movie.
By the way, the owner of the theatre not only had an original poster, but
he ALSo had an incredible lenticular (detail I've never seen before) of
the two leading stars from the movie (Guy Madison and ??) sitting in a
frame on the counter. It must have been part of the original promotional
package. It looked like a very nice protrait. It would be cool to have a
lenticular portrait like that as your family portrait. Anyone do this type
of work??
I signed up as a friend of cinema93. I can only hope he shows more 3D
movies. I'll have to watch my mail!
Oh yeah, no cheap paper polarized glasses. They were black plastic
framed...Incredible!
If you get a chance to see this movie someplacee, even if you have to
drive a couple hours, I highly recommend the trip...
