Regarding the extra tags for JPS format....
There are pros and cons to the tags, but most of the cons will go away as
the fomat expands and gets used more widely. They provide for recognition of
different types of stereo images, so that a variety of types can be included
in the JPS designation, and viewing programs can easily provide you with the
right response in your system for best enjoyment.
The half height image is only one way of doing interlacing, and VRex has
been using them on their website. They tell me it is NOT necessary to use
half-height images and the utility they provide for others to use, doesn't
create half height images. I cannot recommend the half height process
especially since it's not really needed. It has some slight advantages but
significant disadvantages too (at least for now).
One of the problems with the tags is that ordinary image software doesn't
put the tags in place. This step is currently handled by a free utility
provided by VRex. Eventually, with greater acceptance and use of the format,
the provision for the tags can be added to graphic programs. That step
however is probably a long ways off. It's not hard to add the tags to images
by using the special utility so if the tags provide useful functions, they
are worth doing.
