RBT mounts

Can you explain to me how to separate a RBT mount without breaking the tiny 
pins?  I personally have never been able to take apart a RBT mount 
without at least a couple of them snapping off.  I suppose you could use 
tape to seal the mount halves together again.  Also, when I tried to 
separate a RBT mount, I tended to warp the plastic out of shape.  So what's 
the secret? or what am I doing wrong?   Dennis Sherwood
