Just a minor detail to the good info provided by Paul and Sam:

With modern electronic flashes, shutter speed has little to do with
exposure (unless if you are balancing flash with ambient light).  The
reason they recommended 1/25 is that the *flash bulbs* need more
time to deliver their full light output.  With a modern flash you can
set your Realist at any speed (even 1/200 - I usually use 1/100 or 
1/50).  The flash duration is very short (1/1000 or less).
