Kodak's "Mr Stereo" Presentation
- From: P3D Bill C Walton <bill3dbw3d@xxxxxxxx>

Bill Ewald, Kodak's "Mr Stereo" gave a
presentation to the Rochester Photographic
Historical Society last month. I was not able to
attend but I did get to enjoy this event through
the medium of a video tape which was made and
sent to me by P3D Richard Twichell.
Dick is a projectionist by trade and his attention
to detail is certainly visible in the tape he sent me.
It is very realistic and although it isn't in stereo, viewing
it is almost like being there.
Mr Ewald talked and demonstrated stereo for about
one and one half hours and certainly lives up to
everything I heard about him from the Rochester NSA.
His expertise and ENTHUSIASM for stereo is outstanding.
I just hope that I have "my act" together like him when I
get his age (which isn't to far off BTW)
What I found most interesting about his presentation was that
he always used the word "stereo" instead of "3-D". 3-D is
heard during the video tape but it is spoken by someone else,
not Ewald. I believe all of us in the "stereo community" should strive
to use the term stereo, rather than 3-D. To me "3-D" conjures up the
image of folks sitting around in a dark movie house wearing
anaglyphic glasses. That is a part of stereo, but maybe not the most
important.
Of course there are those who say " if you mention stereo, people want
to talk loudspeakers and audio" Then all it takes is to say "I am
referring to
steroscopic, not stereophonic. I think I will probably get some feedback
on this and that is fine.
The "Well Endowed" Rochester NSA Chairman P3D Bill Davis received several
compliments from Mr Ewald, during the presentation, for this restoration
work on some of Ewald' s stereo equipment. Bill also appears in the
video
tape discussing stereo and I can see what he referred to as 'his
problem"
I think a change of stereo format, to stereo cards, and a Red Wing Viewer
will solve his "problem" (Just kidding Bill)
Friday I received the "frosting on the cake" so to speak.. Dick Twichell
sent
me a stereo card of Bill Ewald and optical guru Rudolf Kingslake, which
he had made at the presentation.
JUST A COUPLE OF THE LONG DISTANCE BENEFITS OF STEREOGRAPHY!!
