In order to get rid of all non-convergence clues, I'd
say we need a very dark room and a number of point 
sources of light which are to be shown sequentially.
The subject notes the relative distance of a source
shown to the position of the previous source shown
with a simple "nearer" or "farther".  The problem is 
finding/making the very dark room with non-reflective
walls.  How's this sound to you, John R?  Jim C?
