Computer 3D articles

The June 16 issue of EE Times has a collection of articles on computer 3D,
starting around page 77. Apparently there's a pretty strong push for
"3D graphics accelerators" these days.

I don't think any of the articles mention the word "stereo", but some of the
applications sound as though they use stereo, and presumably some of the
2.5D rendering is also applicable to stereo. There is mention of obtaining
images from slightly different points of view, and some of the artwork
accompanying the articles appears to indicate use of anaglyph.

The impression I got was that stereo is part of this push toward computer 3D,
but that the author didn't convey any particular distinction or premium
for stereo over 2.5D - it's all "3D". It's hard to judge the benefit to
stereo 3D from singling it out as a distinct class, in generic articles of
this type - I would have preferred to see a little more mention of stereo,
but I still enjoyed the articles. My guess would be that the trends described
indicate that computer stereo is likely to be more available in the future
than it is at present.
