Stereo Window - Poll time

The way I visualize it...
If I mount to the "window", the "window" is the mask openings; since
modern slide mounts/masks have fixed-space windows, one can only move the
chips and moving the chips is moving the scene relative to the mask openings,
the "window."
I sometimes think of this as viewer mounting or impact mounting.
I have perceived the window as the same size or of no particular size in
the viewer. I think my brain hasn't computed size for it in the viewer... it
knows the mask is about one inch square and moves on. So thanks for
complicating stereo for me Dr. T!:=)
If I mount to infinity, then the chips *and* the window/mask edges are
fixed... unless I "remask" to put the window where I want it. This is classic
"pure" projection mounting.
If a "standard" mount is used and the chips mounted to infinity within
it, then projected with infinity points separated by 65mm, the window will be
behind the screen when the image is projected smaller than actual and in
front of the screen when projected larger than actual. Stereoptically, it
will be the same "size" in both instances.
So if I mount a subject taken at 14 feet "to the window" at about seven
feet, is part of the impact that my brain wants to interpret it as somehow
"bigger" because it's closer(the mask doesn't change so the subject must,
somehow)?
Ah... since the window is unchangeable in my perception and a known
subject isn't 'sposed to change either, I think my brain imputes some of the
"depthiness" of the window to the subject!
Is my head hurting yet? :=)
For the poll... if I move only the chips, the scene moves, the window
doesn't.
