Best 3-D Movies?

  • From: P3D Bill Davis <bd3d@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

A few weeks back I reported that the Dryden Theater of the George Eastman
House (after a very sucessful showing of House of Wax) has tentatively
planned a week of 3-D movies for some time in 1998. I very much want to be
involved in their selection process. A big reason for this is to help them
select some quality movies. The attitude there seems to be that 3-D in
movies is basically a gimmick, as evidenced by their inclusion of House of
Wax as part of their "Mondo Weirdo" series.

I searched my files of old P-3D digests and found a brief thread from 6/94
(back when a digest sometimes consisted of only one message!) that
addressed the topic of "good" 3-D movies. The suggestions were "Kiss Me
Kate", "Dial M For Murder", "Hondo" and Arch Obeler's "The Bubble".

The list membership has grown considerably since those far off days, so
perhaps there are some new suggestions. What I'm looking for are good
(plot, acting, setting, etc.) movies that also happen to be in 3-D, or
movies with exceptionally good stereo regardless of the other factors. If
someone doesn't give them suggestions the Dryden may just grab whatever
they can with "3-D" in the description, regardless of quality. I foresee a
week of movies full of "Home Improvement"-type schtick. :--(

Any suggestions? The Dryden has the capability for either anaglyph or
polarized, in side-by-side or over-under format.

Best regards,
Bill Davis
