Re: Peter Davis wants to move a partially exposed roll of film
from one Realist to another. No I haven't done it, but I have
considered it. I don't see any reason it shouldn't work, provided
you always follow the same procedure for loading the film (or can
accurately remember for this particular roll how many exposures you
"wound off" in loading the film, and when and if you set the film
counter dial to 1). With that information, just be sure to note how
many exposures you've taken so far. Rewind the film as usual but
watch the film advance wheel, and stop rewinding as soon as the
advance wheel stops turning as you rewind to avoid having to fish
the leader out of the cannister when you transfer the film.
When you put the film in the second Realist, wind off the same number
of shots as you did the first time, set the dial to 1 at the same
time you did the first time, and then start advancing the film the
number of exposures already used. To avoid an overlap problem, I
would recommend advancing *two* extra frames. If you only advance
one extra frame, the left image of the last used shot could overlap
the right image of the first new shot.
Note that with the Realist you can advance one exposure at a time
without tripping the shutter. Just advance the film as you normally
would, but don't trip the shutter. This way you don't have to worry
about light leaking around the lens caps.
Hope this helps.
