Tom Dory inquires a stereo related item that he found at a local camera
shop labelled, "Film Identification Unit for Realist Camera Model ST 523".
Paul replies that he thinks it is a film identifier, that reminds you of
the type of film you have inside the camera. That's what I thought it
might be, but coincidentally, while reading Morgan & Lester's, "Stereo
Realist Manual", I stumbled across the item in question. Rather it's
film identifer that uses the otherwise unexposed film (thus no film
wastage) between 1L and 2L, to identify film info, such as, your name,
date, place, or film type.
The info is written on a small piece of paper and inserted into the holder
and then the attachment is put over the left lens of the camera. There is
a close up lens on the attachment and by setting the focusing knob at
infinity, a close up shot of the info on the paper is taken.
The dot in the simple ascii pic is where the hinges are located,
so that the attachment can be folded flat and take minimal space.
