Subject: ANNOUNCE:
As you may know, four years ago, Virtual i-O set out to create the
ultimate personal (head mounted) display system with a product called
i-glasses.
Characteristics included:
* Very light weight -- about 8 ounces
* Big screen illusion -- similar to a 80 inch screen viewed from 11 feet
away
* Ergonomically simple -- no inter pupillary or focus adjustment
required
* Low Cost -- prices started at $500
* Wide compatibility models available with NTSC, PAL & VGA
* 3D imaging and head tracker options.
Earlier this year Virtual i-O ceased operations, which culminated in a
recent liquidation of core assets at a public auction. In the ensuing
time, we have learned that many of Virtual i-Os customers have been
searching for a new product to take the place of the i-glasses.
I am pleased to tell you that Ilixco, who's founders are deeply
associated with liquid crystal display technology, and TCID, the
principal investor in Virtual i-O have agreed to jointly form a new
company. Our mission is to continue to manufacture the "i-glasses" and
develop and nurture new personal display products. In the next few
weeks, we will relaunch two of Virtual I-O's successful HMD "i-glasses".
* VTV NTSC or PAL personal video display
* ProTec - VGA professional large screen virtual reality display system
Virtual i-O's pioneering efforts with "i-glasses" have convinced both
TCID and us that there is a growing market for these type of products.
In addition, the i-glasses won numerous design awards including:
* Popular Mechanics 1996 Design and Engineering Award
* 1996 R&D 100 Award
* iF Seal of Good Industrial Design 1996
* VideoGame Magazine Best of the Best 1996
More importantly, thousands of customers who purchased "i-glasses" were
very satisfied with the product. During 1996, i-glasses generated more
sales revenue than the rest of the virtual reality display industry
combined. The reason is simple, no other product has been able to
offer the combined overall level of performance, design, ergonomics, low
cost and quality.
Sincerely,
--
