Why is extreme depth of field needed?  Is it due to the curvature
of the stereo cards?  For non-curved cards, the only reason I can
think of for extreme depth of field would be to give yourself some
cushion for focus error.

How much is the curvature and what f/stop is required to provide
the needed DOF at those close ranges?
