I second that!

The competition proved a useful learning experience for me.  I had
only once done any night stereo photography, and that was very soon
after purchasing my Realist.  When the rules of the competition were
announced, I was dismayed that there was a 1 year age limit for the
photo entries.  Without that requirement, I probably would have
selected an existing image from "inventory" to submit.  Instead I
was forced to go work toward the specific goal of making a good
"After Hours" stereo photo.  Somehow I managed to capture some images
with which I was very pleased.  When I saw the results, I was amazed
at how rewarding it was to have taken a specific assignment and
created something I could count among my favorite images!

So here's a suggestion for photographers who aren't involved in
competitions:  when you see a theme announced, challenge yourself
to take stereo photos that would qualify, and complete the
assignment by the deadline.  Do it for yourself even if you
are not entering the competition!
