Camera Seals

Mike Province asked what can be done about deteriorating camera seals.

Mike the news is not all that bad.

Many many manufacturers have used and continue to use foam material for
light seals in cameras.  The stuff breaks down
after a number of years, loses its effectiveness and turns to a
maddening goo.  Luckily it can be cleaned up quite nicely and replaced.
It should not be a mystery to any camera repairman.

I recently had this done to my 1970's vintage Pentax KX body at the
local Pro Camera Repair.  Total cost $22.
