Actually, I thought the anaglyph presentation of the Mars photos were
pretty good. It gave me a feeling of depth and since the photos were
black & white, didn't ruin any of the color :-).
Another reason to use anaglyph is that there are glasses that are widely
available to easily permit 3D viewing. All other methods either require
projection (pulfrich, polarized), practice (cross-eyed, wall-eyed) or
special hardware (Viewmagic, VM, etc...).
Don't get me wrong here. I'm NOT saying it's the best presentation for
3D, only that it's the most widely recognized by the public and the most
convenient for print media. I personally prefer Realist format in a
red-button viewer or 2x2x2 slides in a steal-the-light viewer.
