Duplicating Negatives

Greetings,
I have a bunch of Nishika negatives that I want to have made into
enlarged lenticular prints. However, before I mail them off to Nimstech
I was thinking of duplicating the negatives as a precaution (I've had
film lost in the mail before...) Little did I know how much trouble that
would be. The local photolab I usually go to said that in order to dupe
the negatives, they would have to develop the prints and then
rephotograph them. This would make the resulting negatives second
generation (or is that third).
My first question, how do you folks go about duplicating your
negatives?
My second question, if you use the above method I mentioned, how
do you get the photolab to keep the photos all in the proper sequence so
that they can produce proper lenticular 3D photos? It seems that
everything I have them do is out of the ordinary. I'm afraid that this
job is going to blow their minds. I was thinking of first developing the
reprints, numbering them on the back, then submitting them to be
photographed for the duplicate negative, but that leads me to my third
question...
Which is...how do I get the lab to take the pictures as half
frames?
The problem with working with local labs is that they 1) are set
up to just bang out vacation snapshots 2) they need me to choose the
abosolutely correct words before they understand exactly what I'm asking
them to do (I have a lot of trouble getting artwork photographed because
of this problem). To be fair, this place isn't a one hour photolab.
They are one of the best photo shops in the valley. They handle all
sorts of jobs. Mine just tend to be the ones they don't usually
handle... ;) Maybe my problem is that I'm trying to get specialized work
done at a mainstream photolab. What do you folks do?
