'Sunny-16' exposure table

I saw mention of this 'Sunny-16 exposure table' in an article;
what is it? When I read my manual for the Realist camera, it never
mentioned any film speeds, so I bought 100-speed film and a
light meter (which, by the way, doesn't have any exposure
settings to match my Realist camera, so I have to interpolate
all the time).
  Is there a better way around this? What exposure speed
is supposed to be used in the Realist cameras? Does it make
much difference?
